FAQ

How's this going to work then?

One of the most often heard laments among remixers is the inability to remix remixes. This community will attempt to solve that problem.

Step 1: Offer up something to be remixed

The master post will keep track of all the stuff offered, sorted by fandom. You may offer one and only one thing to be remixed at first. After you do your first remix you'll be able to offer another.

Offer in any fandom you want. We'll take anything from your Anthropomorphous Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Flavors fic to your Historical RPF AU about Tesla declaring war on Edison. Just remember that offering your fic does not guarantee that someone is going to remix it.

You can offer your stuff up to be remixed without remixing, but you'll only be able to offer the one thing.

Step 2: Remix something that's been offered

Remix it however you want. The only real guideline is that the original is still recognizable. Check out this list of ways to remix a fic from [community profile] remix_goes_wild. It doesn't stop there though. Remix a fic into an icon or a gif or a filk or macaroni castle. Remix a podfic into some decoupaged jewelery boxes. The possibilities are endless.

You don't need to post to the community, but you do need to post it unlocked. So no locked communities or journals. You can post it to the community and lock it to members only though.

There's no minimum or maximum for this challenge. Do what you feel is appropriate for the idea you have.

Do not post WiPs. Your remix can be as long or as big as you want, but it does need to be completed.

You can, if you like, remix without offering.

Step 3: Rinse and repeat

Repeat step 2 however many times you like and step 1 to the limits available.

Nitty Gritty

Once something has been remixed for the first time it will get a 'Trunk' post where I'll post a link to the original and all other things remixed from it and all the remixes done of those remixes. It'll become it's very own remix tree with branches spreading out. This way everything will be in one easy to find place for people looking for something to remix.

For example: I could offer up The one where Jack and Vala ended up on Fandom Wank and then [archiveofourown.org profile] Beatrice_Otter writes A Collection of E-mails from the SGC Archives (the Wanky Wormhole Remix). Now someone else could come along and remix [archiveofourown.org profile] Beatrice_Otter's fic or my fic. The next person in the line could do any of the three. Or even remix two of them into one fic. I could also decide to remix [archiveofourown.org profile] Beatrice_Otter's remix. She could even then come back and remix my remix of her remix.

In order to make sure the comm isn't flooded with offers you are limited in the number of things you can offer up. You get one to start and after you do your first remix you can offer another.

Questions? Was I terribly unclear about anything?

So, I was reading this first and assuming that the offered fic would have to be a remix - but looking at the offered fics, that doesn't seem to be the case, just that the aim of this comm is then to keep remixing the remixes?

Apologies if I'm just being dim - it seems like a fun idea either way.

Thank you! :-)

And in that case I'll take advantage of the dead comm offer and find five fics. I don't know how much remixing I'll be able to do myself just now - but I would like to try some more when I can and I do like the idea of this comm.

Hmm, now which five fics...? *heads off to find something not completely obscure*

:-)
